Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA) is an integrated approach to developing vocabulary, oral, listening, spelling, writing and reading skills in the first year of learning, utilising the new Ready to Read Phonics Plus texts. It focuses on the link between spoken and written language, systematically supporting children’s phonological awareness, letter-sound knowledge and oral language.
In my role as AST, I am being trained as a facilitator for this new approach to early literacy by the University of Canterbury. This micro-credential will allow me to work with teachers across primary schools in our Kāhui Ako.
Currently, we have teachers being trained from Alexandra Primary, The Terrace, Clyde School and Omakau. If you are interested in training or finding out more information about the Better Start Literacy Approach, please contact me - [email protected]
